How to keep your family healthy in 2022

It’s the start of a new year when goals are being set and everyone is back to their routine.

With a lot of people entering the UK after the holidays, it is important to protect ourselves from Covid19.

The availability of the COVID-19 vaccine has reduced the spread of the virus, subsequently leading to the reduction in new cases. The vaccine comes with mild side effects like headaches and fatigue but has proven to be effective.

However, you are likely to get infected within the first fourteen days after you are administered, so adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines is inevitable.

Also, the vaccine does not stop the spread of the virus but curbs it. This means an individual who is fully vaccinated but carries the virus can infect another person.

COVID-19 is airborne and can easily spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes in public without a face mask.  The virus’s particles can directly enter the body through the nose or mouth. It can also get into the body from an infected hand.  Due to the nature of the virus, it is likely to spread faster within a tight or enclosed place than outdoors.

If you decide to have a family function, picking an outdoor space is safer than an indoor space. Although the chances of spreading the virus in an outdoor event are slimmer, wearing nose masks should remain sacrosanct.

On the other hand, if invited to an outdoor event, and you are having COVID-19 symptoms, then it is best to stay home and take the home PCR test. In a situation where you do not have the home PCR test, locate a PCR center and conduct a COVID-19 private test near you or the cheap PCR test.

Here are a few of the common respiratory illness symptoms that might be caused by the coronavirus; cough, difficulty in breathing, fever, general body fatigue, headaches, gradual loss of taste or smell, dry sore throat among others. For kids and teenagers, the symptoms are mild but can lead to serious lung infections which can be deadly if not given proper medical attention.

In these times, self-care routines should be adopted in families, just like other family traditions and values. Always wash your hands before leaving your home and on return. In a case where you cannot wash your hands before touching any part of the house, apply sanitizer on your hands thoroughly to keep them free from germs. It is also important to infuse exercise into your routine; taking daily walks, a bike ride, and 15 minutes skipping is just as effective as that rigorous exercise routine with consistency.

Surprisingly, organizing a family dance-off is an interesting way to encourage everyone to exercise and burn out excess calories. Create a playlist with tunes that appeal to every member of the family, make a healthy dinner and invite very close friends. The laughter and joy that come from such gatherings are also beneficial to everyone’s mental health.

As a parent or guardian, ensure your kids and teenagers also adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines. In all, endeavour to eat right, stay hydrated and protect the mental state of you and your family. Do you have a family member experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms? Take a home PCR test now.
